HISTORIC STYLE

“In her new book, HISTORIC STYLE, Kelee Katillac offers inspiration and guidelines for how to stay true to one’s personal style while honoring a home’s history.”

 Architectural Digest

Throughout the book, Kelee breaks new ground by diving into a metaverse of inspiration to create a fresh, colorful take on historic places. However, she begins by laying a foundation in solid preservation practices observed at National Register of Historic Places properties.

The Historical Inspiration: Great house museums, including Mount Vernon, Montpelier, Historic New England, and Napoleon and Josephine’s Malmaison, are guided by United States and global standards for historic preservation.

Design Story Montages: For each design, Katillac identifies a project narrative to pinpoint the most compelling symbols. Drawing on art, color, fashion, film, music, science, literature, and personal memory, these representative images become sources for new design concepts.

Kelee’s Design Diary and Playlists: Through her stream-of-consciousness diary, we find the poetic depth she brings to the formation of each design. Music-driven Kelee enlivens the stage of her design with a pop-culture soundtrack. History is jolted to life in this time and place.
